Hiking
The Timbers at Chama offers over 400 acres of private trails
and open, cross-country exploration. Nearby, you’ll find some of
the most untrammeled and pristine hiking in North America, including
the spectacular South San Juan Wilderness, the Santa Fe National Forest
and millions of acres of public lands. From crystal clear mountain lakes
to dramatic cliffs and verdant valleys, The Timbers at Chama staff will
gladly direct you to trails in Northern New Mexico or Southern Colorado
suitable for any level of experience, fitness and expertise.
Wildlife Viewing and Bird Watching
Few places in North America offer
the rich diversity of wildlife found at the Timbers at Chama. Birders
will find Bald Eagles, Red Tail Hawks, Ospreys and other raptors in abundance,
along with scores of different songbirds and several species of Hummingbirds.
Resident mammals include Elk, Mule Deer, Brown Bear, Fox, Coyote, Ringtails, Prairie Dogs, Cougar, Bobcat and Lynx to name but a few.
