Hunting Overview

The Timbers at Chama dons its camo gear from mid-September to December, welcoming hunters to one of the best habitats in the Rocky Mountains, New Mexico’s fabled Unit 4. Whether you prefer the Rocky Mountain Bull Elk, trophy Mule Deer or the elusive Merriam Turkey, the Timbers at Chama will put you onto the game with some of the finest hunting in New Mexico.

We believe in harvesting the biggest trophy Elk and Mule Deer. Our guides take a select group of hunters to harvest these large bull Elk and only a few prized, trophy Chama Valley Deer each year.

Why spoil a perfect day of hunting by spending the night in a drafty cabin or leaky tent? Come home to the Timbers at Chama for an unforgettable hunting experience and the camaraderie of fellow hunters.

New Mexico Bull Elk Hunts

Hunting New Mexico’s huge Bull Elk during the rut is the most popular hunt at the Timbers at Chama. The bugle of a Bull Elk is one of the last truly wild sounds of the Rocky Mountains. Hearing a trophy Elk will give you chills, as you await that hunt of a lifetime. Our guided Elk hunts use guides who always know where the Elk will be on our private New Mexico Unit 4 ranches.

These are free roaming Elk hunts with an excellent success rate. Our local New Mexico Elk herd is thriving with hundreds of healthy trophy Elk. In fact, selective hunting and sound wildlife management have allowed our Elk hunting to improve each year.
